Might not be. there were actions in Florida prior to the firing on Ft. Sumter, i.e. the capture of the Federal Arsenal at Chattahoochie, FL as well as the same sort of activity at St. Augustine. The Confederate troops from Florida were armed with brand new rifles when the war started.





The Arsenal was taken in early January 1861, Ft. Sumter was taken in April, 1861.
True,,sort of. Not much of a battle. No one was killed except a confederate horse. 3 union Soldiers were killed the following day during a salute to the Union flag as it was being lowered because their battery exploded.
