Is this true or false? How?

Is it true or false that dirty water can produce flies? My mom found a dirty old molded drink in one of the trashcans. She opened it up and flies flew all over the place. My mom said that dirty molded old drinks can create flies. How is this possible? Liquid turns to a living thing? Is this true or false? How?
you taking this out of context. her meaning should be still water is a better breeding ground for insects. Is this true or false? How?
It doesn't create flies, it just gets the flies to go to it because they are attracted to food and drink.
It's false. So are most of the other answers here!!!

The reason that flies are coming out of the can is because they have found a readily digestible food source in the sugars which are part and parcel of any can of fizzy drink. They are certainly not ';created'; from the ingredients in the can!!! Flies need to ';predigest'; their foods by spitting on it to allow their acids to break it down into a liquid, which they then drink. So a food source like a sugary can removes their requirement to predigest.

Flies lay eggs in solid matter. Best place for them to do this is in a rotten food or faecal matter so that the hatchlings have a ready food source when they hatch. The fly's hatchlings - or larval stage - are called ';maggots';, which are the gross white grubs you'll often see digesting a carcass. They have often been used in the past medicinally - their use has been rediscovered recently too - as they're really good at chewing away dead cells without touching any which are live; a situation you get in cases of gangrene. I'm serious about this too!!!

Hope this helps,

Stagnant fluids are the ideal breeding ground for many insects. If there isn't enough oxygen or motion in the fluid, insects lay their eggs there. Standing ponds of water, for example become a haven for all sorts of invasive creatures, ie. the mosquito. If there is any sugar in the fluid, it becomes food for the larvae until they reach maturity.
Flies aren't created from the dirty water itself, but the combination of stagnant water and any sugar that might have been in the water (you said it was a drink) would attract flies quite easily.

So, the short answer is that it's false. However, it's never a good idea to leave any sort of standing liquid out for too long because of the risk of attracting flies.
